Expanding the boundless imagination and skills of an illustrator

Unlike previous semesters, my Spring and Fall 2021 term courses are exclusively focused on supporting my thesis work. This Spring, I’ll complete Writing for Children’s Books and in the Fall, I’ll be taking Children’s Book Illustration II.

A Lifelong Dream
The decision to attend art school was, for me, more than 30 years in the making. And since it’s never too late to pursue a lifelong dream, I decided it was high time to jump in and get started. Here’s why.

Statement of Intent
The MFA graduate program required me to submit what they called a “Statement of Intent” to briefly outline a bit of information about myself as well as to share what I hoped to accomplish with the degree. Flip through the slides below to see what I submitted.

My degree concentration is in children’s book illustration, which is a joyous and refreshing departure from decades of corporate-centered, brand design work.

Thesis Work
My thesis proposal was recently approved (mid-January 2021): 3 sets of children’s book illustrations; 5 illustrations per set (with each set focusing on its own story). This thesis work is now underway …
